I got to know John in 1988 during my assignment at BP in London. We worked closely together but because we got on so well, we also met outside  office hours. We played squash and golf. I thoroughly enjoyed his drive and sense of humour and am glad that we met up in Antwerp back in 2018. 
I can still not believe that he is no longer among us. 
I will remember him as authentic, bright and funny. He was a real friend and a family man. 
It has been an honour to know. My thoughts are with Jude and his sons.
